KTM 790 Adventure R — Why I Chose This Bike 🏍️

For me, the KTM 790 Adventure R is above all a motorcycle built to go far and not be afraid of leaving the asphalt behind. With its 799 cc parallel-twin engine producing 95 horsepower, 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels, and especially its WP XPLOR suspension with 240 mm of travel, it was clearly designed for adventure and serious off-road riding.

Why I chose it

I wanted a motorcycle that could do many things: cover long distances on the road, take dirt tracks, handle difficult terrain and take me to places where roads almost disappear. To me, the 790 Adventure R offers the right balance between long-distance travel and off-road riding. It is light and agile enough for serious adventures, while still having enough engine to cover big distances comfortably.

And then there is something that is harder to explain: its character. This motorcycle makes you want to take a random path simply because you don’t know where it leads. That’s exactly what I look for when I travel. With this bike, the destination becomes secondary. What matters is the road, the landscapes, the unexpected encounters and that feeling of freedom when the asphalt disappears beneath your wheels.

My quick review

What I love most is its versatility. It can be a real travel machine, but it never feels completely out of place when the road ends. The long-travel suspension, large wheels and off-road-focused chassis give it a completely different personality when the terrain gets rough. KTM itself positioned the 790 Adventure R as a motorcycle aimed at riders looking for serious off-road adventure capability.

Is it the perfect motorcycle? No. It’s tall, it requires some commitment in technical sections, and like any large adventure bike, it can become demanding when the terrain gets really difficult.

But that’s exactly what I like about it.

I didn’t choose it simply to go from point A to point B.
